Quick Overview
The Emerald Dream is a realm bound to the natural world and the green dragonflight's ancient charge. Ysera's guardianship and the long sleep of night elven druids tied it closely to the forests of Kalimdor. Its influence touched the War of the Ancients and the rebuilding of night elf society afterward.
Full History
The green dragonflight, guided by Ysera, watched over the living world and the Dream that reflected its deeper natural pattern. Long before the modern kingdoms arose, this duty set the greens apart from the dragonflights devoted to magic, life, time, or the earth. Their guardianship was less visible than the armies of mortals, but it shaped the work of druids who learned to move between waking land and dreaming nature.
During the War of the Ancients, Malfurion Stormrage turned toward the power of nature to challenge the Burning Legion's invasion. The conflict over the Well of Eternity changed the world, and the surviving night elves later made a new covenant with the dragon Aspects around Nordrassil. The Dream remained central to the life of their druids.
For long stretches of time, many kaldorei druids slept while their spirits entered the Emerald Dream. Their absence placed more of the waking world's defense in the hands of the Sentinels. By the Third War, waking those druids had become vital to resisting the Legion once again, linking the hidden realm's history to the battle for Mount Hyjal.
