Full History
Ysera's green dragonflight guarded the living world's natural balance and maintained a profound connection to the Emerald Dream. Their watch was distinct from the red flight's charge over life itself, though the two responsibilities belonged to the wider stewardship of the Aspects. Green dragons were therefore more than powerful inhabitants of remote forests. They stood for a continuing obligation to the world beyond the political conflicts of its mortal peoples.
The original Warcraft III material associates green dragons with the wilderness of Ashenvale and a protective concern for nature. This places them near the forests defended by night elves and their allies during the Burning Legion's invasion. Earlier history connected Ysera with the other Aspects, whose unity was broken by Neltharion's betrayal. The green flight's endurance after that calamity meant that one branch of Azeroth's ancient guardianship continued despite the failure of another.
Ysera's influence does not require that every green dragon be assigned a named mission or that later stories about the Emerald Dream be imported. The early sources establish both the flight's charge and its place in the natural world. At the opening of World of Warcraft, the forests and dreamlands they cherished remained vulnerable. Their existence recalled a form of guardianship older than the nations trying to control those lands.
