Quick Overview

Ysera and the green dragonflight guarded the Emerald Dream and the living balance of Azeroth. Their charge connected the ancient dragon Aspects to the work of druids and the preservation of wild places. Through the wars that scarred the continents, Ysera's responsibility endured beyond the rise and fall of mortal kingdoms.

Full History

Ysera's charge was unlike that of any mortal sovereign. As leader of the green dragonflight, she watched over nature and the Emerald Dream, a realm linked to the living shape of the world. Her guardianship belonged to the age when the five Aspects were entrusted with protecting Azeroth, before the kingdoms of elves, humans, or orcs had risen.

The green flight's connection to the Dream bound it closely to the work of druids. Malfurion Stormrage and the night elves learned to regard the balance of forests and wilderness as a sacred duty, not a possession that any one people could claim. Ysera's domain therefore reached beyond the territories marked on a map. What happened to the world's living things mattered whether or not armies ever came to defend them.

Neltharion's betrayal showed that even ancient guardians could endanger the trust placed in them. Yet Ysera's duty endured through wars and disasters that remade the continents. While mortals fought over borders, the green flight kept watch over a more fragile continuity: the possibility that the world could heal and grow after each new wound.
