Full History
Ysera's guardianship of nature came into conflict with the worshippers of Hakkar when the Atal'ai established a temple deep within the swamp. The cult sought a return for the blood god, continuing practices rejected by other troll peoples. In response, the green dragon Aspect used immense power to submerge the structure. The temple endured beneath the waters, and the danger within did not simply disappear.
The Atal'ai traced their cause to the downfall of Hakkar's influence among the Gurubashi. Exiled devotees sought a new place from which to pursue his restoration. Their temple became the focus of rituals that threatened the wider living world, drawing the attention of the guardian associated with the Emerald Dream and natural balance. The result was the sunken sanctuary encountered in the Swamp of Sorrows, a ruin whose origin lay in an ancient religious conflict.
Original World of Warcraft treats the temple as a dangerous place where threats survive. Its existence does not prove that any adventurer has already defeated the cult's plans. The history should distinguish Ysera's intervention, which helps explain the structure's condition, from the separate player-facing adventures set there. Hakkar's worship and the guardians' resistance remain part of an unresolved struggle over the use of supernatural power.
