Five great dragonflights were entrusted with different duties in the care of Azeroth. Alexstrasza's red flight guarded life; Ysera and the green flight watched over nature and the Emerald Dream; Malygos's blue dragons protected magic; Nozdormu's bronze flight concerned itself with time; and Neltharion's black flight held responsibility for the deep earth.
Their cooperation was shattered during the War of the Ancients. Neltharion persuaded the others to invest part of their power in the Dragon Soul, promising a weapon against the Burning Legion. He then turned it against his fellow dragons, devastating the blue flight and revealing his ambition for dominion. The guardian once known as the Earth-Warder became Deathwing, an enemy of those who had trusted him.
The consequences endured across the ages. During the Second War, the Dragonmaw clan used the same artifact to enslave Alexstrasza and force red dragons into battle for the Horde. The eventual destruction of the Demon Soul ended that captivity and began to restore what the Aspects had lost. Their story is one of vast responsibility repeatedly threatened by betrayal and the misuse of power.
