Full History
Long before mortal travelers entered Winterspring's mountains, the blue dragonflight had guarded the practice and balance of arcane magic. Its Aspect, Malygos, suffered grievous losses when Neltharion betrayed the dragons and turned the Dragon Soul against his kin during the War of the Ancients. Much of the flight was scattered or destroyed, and the surviving dragons spent ages apart from the ordinary kingdoms of Azeroth. Their vigilance did not end merely because their strength had been broken.
Mazthoril became one of the flight's secluded refuges in Winterspring. Haleh and other blue dragons guarded its passages and maintained a presence far from cities where mortal magi studied the arts that Malygos was charged to oversee. The mountain retreat connected the flight's ancient stewardship of magic with its long recovery from betrayal. It was not a city founded by mortals or a treasure house seized during a recent campaign.
The continued presence of blue dragonkin in the north reflected a duty that survived terrible personal loss. Their withdrawal made them seem remote to the peoples of Kalimdor, but the danger of reckless sorcery had never vanished from the world. Mazthoril's history begins with the Dragon Aspects' charge and carries the consequences of the Dragon Soul into an age when the flight endured in scattered sanctuaries.
