Quick Overview
Malygos and the blue dragonflight were charged with safeguarding magic. Their numbers and strength were devastated when Neltharion turned the Dragon Soul against the other dragons during the War of the Ancients. The survivors carried forward their ancient duty in a world where arcane power had repeatedly opened the way to catastrophe.
Full History
The blue dragonflight's ancient charge concerned magic itself. Malygos, one of the dragon Aspects, watched over arcane forces that mortals would eventually use to build kingdoms, open portals, and wage devastating wars. The duty gave the blues a close connection to the forces that could shape a civilization or destroy it.
That guardianship did not protect the flight from betrayal. During the War of the Ancients, Neltharion unleashed the Dragon Soul upon the other Aspects and their children. The blue dragons suffered terrible losses, and Malygos endured the collapse of a flight that had once stood beside the others in defense of the world.
The survivors inherited a duty made harder by their wounds. Magic remained essential to Azeroth and equally capable of inviting disaster, as the ancient Sundering and later demonic wars demonstrated. The blue dragonflight's story is therefore one of guardianship scarred by a betrayal from within the order of the Aspects itself.
