Malygos was entrusted with the guardianship of magic, the hidden power through which so many of Azeroth's civilizations would rise and fall. As Aspect of the blue dragonflight, he was one of the ancient protectors appointed to preserve the world's order. His responsibilities were immense, yet his people would suffer one of the gravest losses of that age.
Neltharion, once the Earth-Warder and an ally of the other Aspects, persuaded his fellows to contribute their power to a single artifact. He called it the Dragon Soul. When he turned its might against them during the War of the Ancients, the blue flight was devastated. The destruction broke more than an army: it shattered the company of dragons that Malygos had been charged to lead.
The betrayal left Malygos withdrawn and grief-stricken. The magic he guarded remained vital to the world, but his own flight bore the scars of the weapon made with the Aspects' trust. The blue dragons' long history became inseparable from that calamity, a warning that power gathered for protection can ruin its keepers when one guardian chooses dominion instead.
