Full History
The red dragonflight received a charge unlike that of mortal armies. Under Alexstrasza the Life-Binder, its guardians were entrusted with the protection of living things throughout Azeroth. Their purpose was ancient, established when the Dragon Aspects were given different responsibilities for the care of the world.
That duty became a cruel burden when Neltharion betrayed the other flights and created the Dragon Soul. Though the Aspects sought to defend Azeroth from the Burning Legion, their surrendered power became an instrument of coercion. Ages later the Dragonmaw clan recovered the artifact. Nekros Skullcrusher used its power to hold Alexstrasza prisoner at Grim Batol and force members of her flight into service during the Second War.
The dragons who should have protected life were turned into weapons. Their freedom depended upon the destruction of the artifact that bound them. When the Demon Soul was broken, Alexstrasza and her kin could begin to reclaim the ancient responsibility stolen from them. The flight's history therefore joins the guardianship of the world to one of the Second War's gravest acts of enslavement.
