Full History

Falstad Wildhammer emerged from the long tradition of gryphon riders who defended the Wildhammer dwarves after their exile from Grim Batol. Their new home at Aerie Peak gave them a vantage over the Hinterlands, while their friendship with the Alliance helped hold the northern kingdoms against the orcs. Falstad's own fortunes became bound to the fate of the red dragonflight after the Second War.

When the mage Rhonin undertook a perilous journey toward Grim Batol, Falstad and other gryphon riders became involved in the expedition. The journey cost the dwarves dearly: the dangers surrounding the Dragonmaw stronghold and its captive dragons claimed companions who had set out with him. Yet Falstad continued with Rhonin and the ranger Vereesa Windrunner rather than abandoning the effort when it became clear how formidable the enemy was.

The struggle ultimately helped end the Dragonmaw clan's captivity of Alexstrasza. With the dragon queen freed, the orcs lost their most terrible means of breeding and controlling red dragons for war. Falstad's courage belonged to the same Wildhammer legacy that had survived the ruin of Grim Batol: those who had once been driven from the fortress returned to help break a new tyranny rooted within its walls.
