Full History

The Wildhammers were once one of three great dwarf clans living beneath the mountain of Ironforge. After High King Anvilmar died, the resulting civil war drove them from the ancestral city. Khardros Wildhammer led his people through Dun Algaz and founded a new kingdom at Grim Batol, where their craftsmen built a capital that rivaled the one they had lost.

The Dark Irons' thirst for revenge destroyed that peace. Modgud's army invaded Grim Batol with sorcery and terror, and although Khardros killed the sorceress, her darkness left the city tainted. The Wildhammers abandoned their hard-won home and traveled north again, many settling in the Hinterlands.

There they developed a way of life increasingly associated with the heights, the open sky, and their bond with gryphons. That adaptation distinguished them from the Bronzebeards who remained in Ironforge and the Dark Irons who dwelt beneath Blackrock Mountain. When the Alliance fought the Horde, Wildhammer gryphon riders became an important part of its strength, carrying into battle the courage of a clan twice driven from home.
