Full History
The Wildhammer dwarves did not begin in the Hinterlands. Their ancestors had fought for Ironforge during the War of the Three Hammers, only to be driven from the mountain by the Bronzebeards. Khardros Wildhammer led them to Grim Batol, where they built a mighty kingdom and believed their years of exile might at last be over.
Modgud's assault shattered that hope. Although the Wildhammers killed the sorceress and defeated her armies, the darkness she brought into Grim Batol endured. Khardros led many of his people north again, farther from the ancestral halls they had once shared with the other dwarf clans. In the Hinterlands they established a new homeland and came to prize a bond with gryphons and the open sky.
Aerie Peak grew from that second migration. It represented a different kind of Wildhammer strength, less bound to subterranean kingdoms and more closely tied to the highlands and their flying companions. The settlement's history joins the old civil war, the destruction of Grim Batol's peace, and the determination of a displaced clan to begin again.
