Full History
Khardros Wildhammer led his displaced clan north through Dun Algaz to establish a new home at Grim Batol. Driven from Ironforge during the struggle among the three great dwarf clans, the Wildhammers sought a mountain stronghold of their own. For a time, Grim Batol became the center of a new Wildhammer kingdom.
The move followed the Bronzebeards' victory in the civil war after Anvilmar's death. Rather than remain subject to their cousins in Ironforge, the Wildhammers crossed into new territory under Khardros's leadership. The relocation preserved the clan's independence, but it also separated its people from the ancestral city. As new settlements grew, the division of the dwarves became more than a disagreement over rulers: it became a separation of homelands.
Grim Batol would later suffer a devastating Dark Iron assault led by Modgud, leaving a curse that drove the Wildhammers away again. Their eventual journey to the Hinterlands established Aerie Peak and the gryphon-riding culture familiar in later ages. Khardros's first migration is thus the beginning of a double exile through which the Wildhammers forged a separate identity.
