Quick Overview
Northeron was remembered as the home region of gryphon riders who joined the Alliance's struggle against the Horde. Their enchanted Stormhammers and mastery of the skies gave the northern kingdoms a weapon against enemies approaching from above. Its precise correspondence with later maps remains uncertain.
Full History
During the Second War, the Alliance drew strength from peoples whose fighting traditions differed greatly from those of human infantry. Among them were dwarven gryphon riders associated with Northeron. Their bond with powerful flying mounts allowed them to strike at forces ordinary soldiers could not easily reach.
The Horde's aerial threat made that skill especially valuable. Orcish dragon riders could attack from above, burning and scattering armies on the ground. Gryphon riders carried enchanted Stormhammers into battle and challenged those enemies in the air, bringing a distinctive dwarven contribution to the alliance of kingdoms.
Northeron's name endured through the deeds of its riders even as the lands and borders of the Eastern Kingdoms changed. The gryphon riders' service bound an otherwise distant homeland to the Alliance's resistance. Their mounts and courage ensured the skies were not left entirely to the Horde's dragon riders.
