Quick Overview

The Alliance's strength during the Second War came partly from specialists whose skills extended beyond the armies of human kingdoms. Ironforge's dwarves brought weapons and practical knowledge shaped by life in the mountains, while gnomish craft produced flying reconnaissance machines and underwater vessels. Dwarven fighters and engineers, gnomish inventors, and gryphon riders broadened its ability to fight on land, sea, and in the air.

Full History

The Alliance's strength during the Second War came partly from specialists whose skills extended beyond the armies of human kingdoms. Dwarven fighters and engineers, gnomish inventors, and gryphon riders broadened its ability to fight on land, sea, and in the air. Their contributions turned the coalition into something more than a gathering of neighboring crowns. Different peoples supplied different traditions of war and invention.

Ironforge's dwarves brought weapons and practical knowledge shaped by life in the mountains, while gnomish craft produced flying reconnaissance machines and underwater vessels. Gryphon riders from Northeron carried enchanted Stormhammers against enemies that could not easily be reached by infantry. These capabilities mattered because the Horde itself used unusual machines, naval equipment, and captive dragons. The Alliance needed answers to threats its older military arrangements had not anticipated.

The manual lists these units and participants without proving that every device appeared in every recorded battle or that all dwarves and gnomes spoke politically with one voice. Their distinct contributions should remain distinct. The chapter illustrates how cooperation among cultures altered the tools available to an army, while leaving each people its own history and identity.
