Full History
The Alliance of Lordaeron began with the ruin of Stormwind. After the First War, human refugees crossed the Great Sea and warned the northern kingdoms that the orcs were not a local threat. King Terenas of Lordaeron summoned the rulers and commanders who could answer that warning. The survivors of Stormwind brought the testimony of invasion, while Anduin Lothar gave the gathering a general who understood the enemy.
The alliance joined rival human realms to the dwarves of Khaz Modan, the elves of Quel'Thalas and other allies whose interests had seldom been perfectly aligned. They defended the north while the Horde pressed through Khaz Modan and toward Lordaeron. Lothar's leadership helped bring the war to a decisive confrontation, and Turalyon continued the fight after the general fell. The coalition ultimately drove the orcs back toward the Dark Portal.
Peace proved harder to preserve than military victory. Keeping the orc prisoners in camps strained royal treasuries, and old disputes among the kingdoms returned. Some rulers questioned Lordaeron's influence; others withdrew from the coalition. The Third War would expose the cost of those divisions, when the northern kingdoms faced a new enemy that no longer needed to march beneath an orcish banner.
