Quick Overview
The Syndicate grew from dispossessed Alterac nobility after the kingdom’s betrayal during the Second War and its political ruin. It used banditry, fortified estates, and remnants of noble authority to challenge both the Alliance and the Horde. Its struggle with Ravenholdt made the mountain roads and ruined castles of Alterac part of a wider shadow war.
Full History
Alterac was once one of the human kingdoms of the Alliance of Lordaeron. During the Second War its ruler, Aiden Perenolde, betrayed the Alliance for what he believed would preserve his own power. The ensuing disgrace shattered the kingdom’s legitimacy and left its noble families without an accepted place among their former allies. The Syndicate arose from that dispossession. Rather than accept the loss of the crown, its members organized armed followers and criminals to seek an eventual restoration of influence.
The group’s surviving operations spread beyond the old capital into the Alterac Mountains, the Hillsbrad approaches, and the fractured holdings of Stromgarde. Lord Aliden Perenolde, heir to the discredited dynasty, and Lord Falconcrest appear among the leaders associated with the organization. Their armed camps were not merely ordinary roadside bandits. They occupied sites that had once been symbols of noble authority, turning castles and passes into tools for a private campaign of political revenge. The result was a rebellion without the support of a legitimate kingdom.
Ravenholdt’s assassins became persistent enemies of the Syndicate, while both Horde and Alliance travelers could fall prey to its agents. Durnholde Keep and Strahnbrad also connect the organization’s survival to the upheavals following the internment of the orcs and the fall of Lordaeron. The Syndicate reveals how defeat in the Second War continued to destabilize the human kingdoms long after the orcs ceased to be their immediate common enemy.
