Quick Overview
Stromgarde was the surviving martial heart of the old human kingdom of Arathor. Its warriors helped forge the Alliance against the Horde, but the settlement of the Second War did not restore the city's former dominance. Rival claims and the fragmentation of its surrounding lands continued to trouble the old kingdom.
Full History
Human kingdoms once traced a common origin to Arathor, whose power had been centered at Strom. As later dynasties and settlements grew, political life shifted toward other capitals, but the old city endured as Stromgarde. Its rulers inherited a proud tradition of defending the northern lands and the memory of a human realm that had once stood united.
During the Second War, King Thoras Trollbane joined the Alliance of Lordaeron to oppose the invading Horde. The alliance gave Stromgarde a place in the campaign against the orcs, even as its leaders remained wary of the ambitions of neighboring states. Their victory did not resolve the divisions among human kingdoms.
Stromgarde continued to struggle with threats to Arathi and disputes over the remnants of its authority. Its history stands between the ancient ideal of Arathor and the fractured politics that followed the great wars. The city had outlived the empire of which it was once the center, but endurance was not the same as recovering its old power.
