Quick Overview
Faldir's Cove is a concealed harbor beneath the cliffs of Arathi, close to the ruins of Stromgarde. In the original world, Blackwater Raiders sheltered there after their search for treasures at the Drowned Reef met with disaster. Their stranded expedition reveals how the drowned ruins and coast of old Arathor continued to draw fortune seekers long after the kingdom's decline.
Full History
The southern shoreline of Arathi provides passages and inlets hidden from travelers on the high roads. Faldir's Cove is one such refuge, reached through rocky approaches beneath the old realm of Stromgarde. Faldir’s Cove became a retreat for Blackwater Raiders searching for valuable elven objects in the dangerous waters nearby.
The raiders' venture went badly. Naga defending the Drowned Reef and strange tides wrecked or trapped their vessels, leaving only the Harbinger safely in the cove. Captain Steelgut and Shakes O'Breen sought assistance recovering navigation records and understanding why the ships had been lost. Gnomish researchers also became involved in detecting valuables buried among the reef's stones. The expedition was a small undertaking compared with the wars of Arathor, but it illustrates how old ruins could retain practical consequences for later generations of sailors and treasure hunters.
The cove was never the great harbor of Stromgarde; it was a concealed refuge within reach of dangerous reefs. It is a secluded place occupied by a stranded band of raiders, linked to submerged elven remains and a dangerous naga presence. Its story enriches Arathi by connecting the inland fall of Stromgarde to the continuing struggle for wealth and passage along the coast.
