Quick Overview

Danath Trollbane fought for the Alliance in the wars against the orcish Horde. He belonged to Stromgarde's ruling house and became one of the commanders sent beyond the Dark Portal. The expedition sought to stop Ner'zhul from unleashing more destruction after the Second War. Danath's path carried the human struggle against the Horde onto Draenor itself.

Full History

Danath rose to prominence not from the palaces of the Alliance but from its hard fighting against the Horde. A veteran captain of Stromgarde's militia, he earned renown in the Second War as the northern human kingdoms struggled to recover lands overrun by orcish armies. In the liberation of Khaz Modan he proved himself capable of leading soldiers through a conflict whose outcome determined whether the Horde would keep its hold on the Eastern Kingdoms.

The Alliance victory did not bring an easy peace. Orc prisoners filled internment camps, ruined settlements needed protection and disagreements spread among the human kings over the captives' fate. Danath served at rebuilt Stormwind and took responsibility for camps holding defeated orcs. That duty stood far from the open battles that had made his name, but it reflected the stubborn problem left by the war: how to prevent another invasion without allowing the peace to collapse into renewed slaughter.

The danger soon returned from the Dark Portal. Ner'zhul rallied the clans still on Draenor and reopened the passage, seeking magical artifacts in Azeroth to tear open routes into other worlds. The war no longer ended at the portal's threshold. Danath joined the Alliance Expedition assembled under Turalyon and fought beside commanders such as Khadgar and Alleria Windrunner. Soldiers who had defended their homes now crossed into the world from which the invasion had first come.

Beyond the portal the expedition struck at strongholds that supported Ner'zhul's campaign. Danath brought the discipline of a seasoned infantry commander to battles against clans on their own ground. The Alliance's purpose was not conquest for its own sake: it sought to prevent another opening of the portal from carrying armies into the human kingdoms. As the orcs' plans accelerated, that objective became harder to separate from the fate of Draenor itself.

The world on the far side began to break beneath the magic Ner'zhul unleashed. Khadgar faced the decision to close the Dark Portal, knowing that doing so could strand the expedition. Danath and his comrades remained beyond the sealed passage as catastrophe consumed Draenor's old lands. In Azeroth, the fate of the expedition was uncertain; the monument at Stormwind honored soldiers whose courage had carried them beyond the reach of their own country.

Danath's history therefore spans two different duties of the Alliance. He helped defeat the Old Horde and keep its captives under guard, then followed the renewed threat into its home world at the cost of any assured return. His service helps explain why the victory over the orcs brought relief to the Eastern Kingdoms but did not erase the losses sustained by the people who secured it.
