Quick Overview
Thoradin brought scattered human tribes together into the empire of Arathor, ruling from the city of Strom. His achievement created a political power able to stand among the older peoples of the Eastern Kingdoms. Arathor's military strength later proved decisive when the high elves called for aid against the Amani trolls.
Full History
Before the rise of the familiar human kingdoms, the tribes of the Eastern Kingdoms lived without the political unity that would later define their place in history. Thoradin changed that arrangement by drawing disparate groups under a single authority. The empire of Arathor established its capital at Strom, giving the human peoples a military and political center able to resist dangers that no isolated settlement could have faced alone.
Arathor's significance lay in the strength of its alliance among human communities and in the authority it could exercise over a wider territory. Its rise coincided with the continued power of older civilizations, including the high elves of Quel'Thalas and the Amani trolls. The human empire had not founded those rival states, but its armies would become important in deciding their long struggle for the northern forests.
When the high elves faced a severe Amani offensive, they appealed to Thoradin's people. Arathor provided the soldiers that, together with elven power, could break the troll threat. In exchange, a group of humans received training in arcane magic. The alliance was therefore both a major military episode and the beginning of a new tradition of human wizardry, with consequences for Dalaran and the eventual establishment of the Order of Tirisfal.
Arathor did not survive forever as a single empire. Over time its former territories and communities developed into the kingdoms later known as Stromgarde, Lordaeron, Stormwind, and other sovereign powers. Their later rivalries should not obscure the earlier achievement that first joined human tribes beneath a common banner. Thoradin's unification gave humanity the institutions and confidence to act decisively in the history of the continent, and its legacy endured long after Strom ceased to command the whole empire.
