Full History
The kingdom of Arathor joined formerly separate human tribes under Thoradin, creating a power that could challenge the forest trolls. Its alliance with Quel'Thalas changed the course of the Troll Wars and introduced organized arcane study among humans. What began as military cooperation also reshaped politics and magic. The human kingdoms that later dominated northern history emerged from this earlier movement toward unity.
The high elves appealed to Arathor when the Amani threatened Quel'Thalas, and human forces aided them in battle. In exchange, elves taught selected humans the use of magic. The victory weakened troll power but spread an art that needed its own institutions and restraints. Dalaran became a center of human wizardry, and the consequences of careless spellcasting later prompted secret cooperation among magi and elves who feared demonic attention.
The Council of Tirisfal arose from that concern, taking its name from the glades where its members assembled. It sought to protect the world from the hidden threats that magic might attract. Arathor's political union would not endure unchanged, but its legacy survived in human city-states, arcane schools, and the Guardians. Thus a war fought to aid the elves set in motion institutions whose decisions would shape Azeroth many ages afterward.
