Quick Overview
The Drywhisker are kobolds occupying a gorge and mine in the Arathi Highlands. Their cavern is linked to the imprisonment of Myzrael, an elemental being whose apparent call for freedom conceals a greater danger. The group is associated with the stone guardians of the binding site rather than the wars among Stromgarde, the Syndicate and the Horde. Their story adds an older underground peril to a region already scarred by the collapse of human power.
Full History
Above ground, the Arathi Highlands tell a history of human kings, forest-troll resistance and orcish invasions. Below their ridges lies a different struggle, involving earth magic and beings far removed from the quarrels of Stromgarde. The Drywhisker kobolds inhabit a gorge where mining tunnels conceal strange shards. Their activities bring travelers close to the prison of Myzrael, an elemental power whose voice seems to offer a simple plea for deliverance.
The prison is bound by ancient stones. Among those linked to its keeping are the guardians Fozruk and Thenan, who oppose the apparent release of the captive. The Drywhisker possess fragments connected to Myzrael and share the cavern system from which her influence can be approached. Their relationship with the guardians is unlike the allegiance of an army to a king. The kobolds inhabit a dangerous site defined by magical forces older than the current frontier, and their small society lives beside a prison few surface dwellers understand.
Myzrael's appeal is deceptive because freedom is not necessarily the same as rescue. Her release would give an imprisoned elemental power greater reach into Azeroth, and the warnings surrounding the binding stones complicate the tale of the captive princess. Where travelers might initially believe they have found a victim of cruelty, the deeper history makes them confront the possibility that the wardens were restraining a threat. The Drywhisker gorge is thus a place where the visible enemies are not the whole danger.
That theme stands apart from Arathi's familiar struggles. The Syndicate, Hammerfall and the defenders of Stromgarde fight over the land's fortresses and roads. The Drywhisker seek treasure and shelter under the hills, scarcely participating in those political contests. Yet their mines touch an older network of stone and enchantment that could disturb the region regardless of the banners raised above it. Small miners and enormous elemental powers share a setting in which the greatest danger is hidden from the ordinary traveler.
At the original WoW horizon, the gorge, its kobolds and the binding stones remain part of Arathi's unsettled landscape. This history does not assume that an adventurer released Myzrael, defeated any guardian or finally resolved the prison. Its enduring contribution is to show that the Highlands hold more than the wreckage of human war: beneath the battlefields lies a mystery of power, imprisonment and uncertain trust.
