Quick Overview
Ravenholdt was an association of highly skilled thieves and assassins concealed among the hills of Alterac. Under Lord Jorach Ravenholdt it judged recruits by cunning rather than noble birth or military rank. Its longstanding rivalry with the Syndicate brought the politics of a fallen kingdom into the secret world of spies and rogues.
Full History
The mountains of Alterac sheltered more than the remnants of the former kingdom. Hidden paths led toward a manor occupied by Ravenholdt, a league whose members prized stealth, secrecy, and the ability to survive dangerous tests. The order was not a conventional human army. Its recruits and allies were drawn from those whose skills could accomplish tasks that governments would rather keep out of sight. A person seeking entry could not simply present a banner or offer a noble lineage; the first challenge was often to find the manor at all.
Lord Jorach Ravenholdt stood at the head of the association. Selected young rogues received invitations to demonstrate their cunning and present a seal to the manor’s agents. That initiation provides an unusually direct glimpse into Ravenholdt’s culture: prestige depended on quiet competence, discretion, and the approval of masters who distrusted boastfulness. The guild’s reputation belonged to a social world largely separate from the public campaigns of the Alliance and Horde.
Its feud with the Syndicate gave Ravenholdt a political significance beyond professional secrecy. The former Alterac nobles used brigands and strongholds in a bid to recover influence; Ravenholdt’s assassins opposed them through less visible means. That feud carried the shattered claims of Alterac into the politics of Hillsbrad and the hidden affairs of rogues across faction boundaries. Ravenholdt maintained power without holding a throne or displaying an army, a stark contrast with its aristocratic rivals.
