Full History

Strahnbrad was one of the villages threatened when Blackrock orcs raided the northern human lands before the full horror of the Scourge became clear. Prince Arthas Menethil, still a paladin serving Lordaeron, came to defend its people. The attack provided an early test of his readiness to command in danger, under the instruction and scrutiny of Uther the Lightbringer.

The defenders confronted orcish raiders who had carried violence back into lands that remembered the Second War. Arthas moved against the immediate threat and then accompanied Uther in an assault on the Blackrock encampment. At that stage, the enemy seemed familiar: an orc warband threatening human settlements. The kingdom's leaders could still imagine that determined soldiers and the Silver Hand might contain such attacks as earlier Alliance armies had done.

Strahnbrad's place in the story lies partly in what came next. The raids preceded the plague that would transform Arthas's mission and destroy Lordaeron from within. The village therefore belongs to the final days when the prince could be seen as a young defender of his people, before grief, fear, and increasingly ruthless choices carried him toward Northrend and the service of the Lich King.
