Vereesa Windrunner

Full History

Vereesa Windrunner was a high elf ranger whose path crossed that of Rhonin after the Second War, when the Alliance was still reckoning with orcish strongholds that had not fallen. She was assigned to escort the troubled young mage on a journey connected to Grim Batol. What began as an uneasy partnership drew them into a danger greater than either had been told: the Dragonmaw clan still held the red Dragonqueen Alexstrasza prisoner and compelled her dragonflight to serve orcish masters.

Their route took them through lands where a few orc forces could still command fear far beyond their numbers. Vereesa's skill as a ranger and growing trust in Rhonin mattered as they sought a way to the fortress. They gained allies, among them the Wildhammer gryphon rider Falstad, while the true forces at work became clearer. Nekros Skullcrusher possessed the Demon Soul, an artifact through which he could subdue Alexstrasza. The black dragon Deathwing also sought the Dragonqueen's eggs for his own designs.

At Grim Batol, schemes collided. Vereesa helped Rhonin survive the struggle as the dragonflights converged upon the fortress. The Demon Soul was destroyed, ending its hold over Alexstrasza and allowing the other Dragon Aspects to reclaim the power it had stolen from them. Vereesa's part in the battle was not that of an observer carried along by a mage's mission. She helped make the improbable rescue possible, and her bond with Rhonin deepened amid the consequences of the Dragonmaw's defeat.
