Quick Overview
Nozdormu the Timeless is the bronze Dragon Aspect charged with protecting the flow of time. His responsibility differs from the powers held by the red, green, blue, and black dragonflights. Through the Caverns of Time and the bronze dragons, the original world hints at the immense history the flight watches over. Their duty is to preserve the proper course of events rather than govern a mortal kingdom.
Full History
The five great Dragon Aspects received distinct responsibilities that bound them to the welfare of Azeroth. Alexstrasza was connected with life, Ysera with the world of nature and dreams, Malygos with magic, and Neltharion with the deep earth. Nozdormu's charge concerned time, an obligation so broad that it reached beyond any single war or realm.
For mortals, history is often a record of lost kingdoms, dead leaders, and battles that cannot be undone. The bronze dragonflight approaches the same world from a different perspective. Its members attend to the continuity of events and the dangers posed by disturbances in their proper progression. Their distant work need not imply that all possible futures have already been revealed to the peoples of Azeroth.
The Caverns of Time in Tanaris are an important original-era geographical connection to the bronze flight. Their existence signals powers beyond the ordinary rivalries of trolls, humans, night elves, and the Horde. The site is part of the mystery of the original world rather than a list of later time-travel dungeons retroactively inserted into the Vanilla starting point.
Nozdormu's story complements the other Aspects by showing that preserving Azeroth is not solely a matter of strength. The fate of cities and wars can depend on whether the world's history remains intact. His office places the bronze flight among Azeroth's ancient guardians even when they are not visibly directing the armies of mortals.
