Full History
The satyrs emerged from the corruption that accompanied the Burning Legion's first invasion of Azeroth. In the night elf empire of Queen Azshara, powerful advisers treated contact with demons as an opportunity for greater arcane glory. Xavius, one of the queen's closest servants, helped turn that fascination into a path through which the Legion could threaten the whole world.
After his fall, Xavius reappeared in demonic satyr form, a visible sign of what service to the Legion could do to an elf. The transformation was not merely a curse inflicted at random. It was bound to allegiance, the hunger for power, and the betrayal of the kaldorei people during the War of the Ancients. Other corrupted elves followed, giving the Legion agents who knew night elf lands and could prey upon familiar loyalties.
The Sundering destroyed Azshara's old imperial order, but it did not end the danger of those who had embraced demonic power. Satyrs remained threats in forests where the night elves continued to defend the land and its living creatures. Their history is inseparable from the fall of the Highborne court: they represent a surviving consequence of the choice to welcome the Burning Legion into Azeroth.
