Shadow Hold became the Shadow Council's hidden stronghold in Felwood after the old orcish warlock conspiracy survived the collapse of the Horde it had once manipulated. Gul'dan's council had begun as a means of controlling clans through secrecy and demonic power. Its destruction during the great wars did not erase the cult's influence or its allegiance to the Burning Legion.
In the corrupted lands of northern Kalimdor, the surviving conspiracy occupied Jaedenar and extended its power beneath the ground. Warlocks, demons, and satyrs gathered within the tunnels, protected by barriers and commanded by ruthless leaders. Lord Banehollow, a dreadlord, held authority within this web of ambition. The cult's hold on Felwood was not a remnant of one defeated army; it was a continuing attempt to preserve the Legion's reach into Azeroth.
Opposition formed among those who sought to heal the forest. Druids of the Emerald Circle investigated Jaedenar, while Arko'narin Starshade and the paladin Trey Lightforge became entangled with the cult's cruelty. Their danger demonstrated the strength of an enemy that preferred captivity, corruption, and secret bargains to open battle. Shadow Hold was the place where the Shadow Council's old methods found a new refuge.
