Full History
Xavius did not vanish from the War of the Ancients when his first service to Azshara's demonic allies ended. He returned in the form of a satyr, a visible sign that the Legion's corruption could remake a night elf rather than simply kill him. His renewed efforts drew other kaldorei toward the demonic cause.
The original danger began with arcane collaboration at the Well of Eternity. Xavius had helped build the gateway by which the Legion entered, exploiting his access to the queen and the Highborne. In satyr form he represented another threat: corruption could spread beyond the palace and persist among the very people resisting the invasion. The boundary between the empire's former elite and a demon's servant had become horribly thin.
The emergence of satyrs broadened the legacy of the ancient war. Even after the portal was destroyed and the continent broken by the Sundering, the events had already transformed some of its inhabitants into servants of the Legion. Xavius's change was therefore more than a personal punishment or reward; it was part of the damage the Highborne's bargain inflicted on kaldorei civilization itself.
