Full History

Eldre'Thalas rose in ancient Feralas as a city of the Highborne, built to preserve arcane knowledge and the power of Queen Azshara's empire. When the War of the Ancients ended with the Well of Eternity's destruction, the city survived while much of its civilization fell. Cut off from the source of magic they had relied upon, its inhabitants faced a long decline behind imposing walls.

The eastern quarters eventually fell away from the surviving Highborne's control. Wild growth and corruption spread through chambers that had once been ordered and cultivated, while demonic influences preyed upon the ruins. The satyr Alzzin the Wildshaper became associated with the twisting of the plant life there, turning an ancient place of learning into hostile overgrowth.

The transformation was not simply nature reclaiming abandoned stone. Eldre'Thalas had survived a world-ending catastrophe but failed to preserve the society that built it. Its eastern halls showed a different cost of the Highborne's dependence on arcane power: with their old order broken, creatures and forces once held at bay could make the surviving ruins their own.
