Full History
Onyxia inherited the cunning of the black dragonflight and the ambition of her father, Deathwing. Rather than conquer a human kingdom openly, she adopted the appearance of Lady Katrana Prestor and drew near the throne of Stormwind. Her power there depended on secrecy: mortal courtiers were meant to see a noblewoman, not a dragon shaping the kingdom's affairs for her own ends.
Stormwind had already endured invasion, exile, and the difficult rebuilding that followed the First and Second Wars. Disputes over the costs of reconstruction and the fate of the Stonemasons weakened confidence in its rulers. Onyxia exploited the disorder from within the royal court, where mistrust could accomplish what an army might fail to do. Her deception helped drive a wedge between the people of Stormwind and those charged with governing them.
The dragon's human name became bound to an age of intrigue in which the greatest danger did not announce itself from beyond the city walls. While her brother Nefarian pursued experiments and power in Blackrock Mountain, Onyxia worked through influence and concealment. Their separate schemes reflected the surviving black flight's determination to regain dominion after the downfall of Deathwing's former alliance with the other Aspects.
