Quick Overview
Stonemaul Ruins are what remains of the Dustwallow village where Rexxar won the allegiance of the Stonemaul ogres. The clan had joined the defense of Durotar after Rexxar defeated its cruel chief, Kor’gall. Subsequent attacks by black dragonspawn drove the ogres to Brackenwall, leaving their old settlement occupied by the Firemane brood.
Full History
The Stonemaul ogres had established a stronghold in Dustwallow Marsh before the Horde faced Admiral Daelin Proudmoore’s campaign in Kalimdor. Their village was a place where outsiders could not simply demand passage or military aid. Under Kor’gall, the clan’s harsh political customs made its inhabitants fearful of their own ruler. Rexxar arrived seeking allies, endured an ordeal that won him the right to challenge the chief, and defeated Kor’gall in combat. The outcome brought Stonemaul warriors into the coalition resisting Daelin’s attack.
Victory in that war did not secure the settlement forever. When Rexxar moved on, Mok’Morokk inherited responsibility for the Stonemaul, but proved a less effective leader. Black dragonspawn of the Firemane brood eventually seized the old village. The ogres sheltered instead at Brackenwall, while dissenters insisted the clan should reclaim its ancestral home. The contest for the ruins was therefore not merely a local encounter with dragonkin: it tested whether a displaced people still possessed the unity and courage to return.
The ruins preserve the link between Rexxar’s campaign against Daelin and the later displacement of his ogre allies. Its story begins with a clan drawn into Horde politics by Rexxar and ends with that clan’s dispossession by forces connected to Onyxia’s black dragonflight. The ruins explain the tensions among the Stonemaul at Brackenwall and provide a historical reason for their hostility toward the Firemane brood.
