Quick Overview

Kor'gall ruled the Stonemaul ogres in Dustwallow Marsh during Rexxar’s defense of Durotar. His brutal authority and possession of the axe Serathil made the clan difficult to recruit as an ally. Rexxar overcame him in the ogres' own trial of strength and brought the Stonemaul into the defense of Durotar.

Full History

When Rexxar sought the Stonemaul's help against Admiral Daelin Proudmoore, the ogres were governed by Kor'gall, a chieftain who valued strength and obedience above accommodation. The clan's ways required a challenger to earn entry by surviving its ordeals. These customs might have allowed a capable leader to command respect, but Kor'gall used them in a climate of fear. Some ogres opposed his excesses without possessing the power to remove him.

Rexxar took the challenge upon himself. He passed the Gauntlet, proving himself before the Stonemaul, then challenged Kor'gall for leadership. The confrontation turned the ogres' own measure of legitimacy against their ruler. By defeating Kor'gall, Rexxar could call upon Stonemaul warriors during the Horde's struggle with the expedition from Kul Tiras. This was a decisive diplomatic as well as martial victory: an independent clan chose to follow a champion whose authority rested on feats it recognized.

The consequences outlived Kor'gall. Rexxar departed and left Mok'Morokk in charge, after which the ogres suffered displacement from their village. Stonemaul Ruins and Brackenwall preserve the consequences of the war against Daelin and the destruction of the clan’s old home. Kor'gall's fall explains why a clan that could have remained hostile took part in the emerging Horde's defense.
