Quick Overview

Marshal Reginald Windsor served Stormwind when the kingdom could scarcely afford to lose another loyal commander. Captured during the struggle around Blackrock Mountain, he uncovered the terrible truth behind Lady Katrana Prestor’s influence at court. His return to Stormwind transformed a prisoner’s warning into an open confrontation with Onyxia. He risked his life to expose a dragon hidden at the heart of the kingdom.

Full History

Stormwind had rebuilt its walls, but stone could not mend the weaknesses within the royal court. King Varian Wrynn was absent, the young prince Anduin occupied the throne under the protection of Highlord Bolvar Fordragon, and the persuasive Lady Katrana Prestor enjoyed influence that few dared challenge. Outside the city, threats gathered in the Burning Steppes and within Blackrock Mountain. Marshal Reginald Windsor had the sort of reputation that made him valuable on a frontier: he was a seasoned officer, accustomed to confronting danger rather than explaining it away.

Windsor’s service had roots in the wars that reshaped the human kingdoms. He and General Marcus Jonathan remembered the campaigns under Turalyon, when Stormwind’s survival depended upon the wider Alliance. That history made Windsor’s later arrest especially bitter. The officer who should have been defending the kingdom was locked inside Blackrock Depths, a prisoner far from the court he had sworn to protect. His enemies could keep him in a cell, but the knowledge he carried was much harder to bury.

Windsor had discovered that Prestor was no ordinary noblewoman. She was Onyxia, daughter of Deathwing and sister to the black dragon Nefarian. The dragon’s disguise gave her access to the highest levels of Stormwind’s government. By manipulating trusted figures and sowing confusion, she could weaken a kingdom from within while her kin and their servants built power in the mountains. Windsor’s evidence was dangerous precisely because it connected intrigues in the palace with enemies the soldiers already knew were real.

After his escape from imprisonment, Windsor returned to Stormwind prepared to confront the deception openly. His march through the capital was not a covert assassination. He faced men who had once served beside him, including Marcus Jonathan, and demanded the chance to reveal the truth in front of the court. In the keep, he named Prestor as Onyxia. She answered not with an argument but by revealing her dragon nature and unleashing violence. Windsor died during the confrontation, yet the spell over Bolvar was broken and the court could no longer pretend its most trusted adviser was human.

Windsor’s achievement was not the defeat of Onyxia herself. His sacrifice made the hidden enemy visible and gave Stormwind a chance to fight for its own future. Where the city had appeared prosperous but politically helpless, it now had a name for the power undermining it. His story brings together the loyal soldiers of the Second War, the black dragonflight, the troubled Wrynn succession, and the dangerous passage from royal suspicion to undeniable truth.
