Quick Overview
Anduin Wrynn was the young prince of Stormwind in the original World of Warcraft era, heir to a kingdom still recovering from the First War. His father, King Varian, was absent, and the kingdom's government faced pressures from within as well as beyond its borders. The restored capital stood atop memories of King Llane's assassination and Anduin Lothar's desperate defense. The prince represented the future of the Wrynn dynasty amid a fragile peace.
Full History
Stormwind had rebuilt its capital after the ruin of the First War, but restoration was never the same thing as security. The Wrynn line, nearly broken when King Llane was assassinated and his people driven north, returned to govern a kingdom surrounded by old enemies and new disputes. Anduin Wrynn was born into that inheritance: a prince expected to embody a future more secure than his family's recent past.
In the original World of Warcraft, Anduin was a child, and the absence of his father Varian created a dangerous vacuum of authority. The kingdom's government depended upon regents and advisers while its provinces faced unrest, brigandage and political distrust. The young prince could not simply resolve these threats by royal command. His role was bound instead to the struggle over who spoke for Stormwind in the missing king's name.
Anduin should not be confused with Anduin Lothar, the commander whose defense of Stormwind and death at Blackrock belong to an earlier generation. The two share a name, but the prince's place in the original era is the uncertain future of the restored Wrynn monarchy, not the victories and defeats of the Second War.
