Quick Overview
Bolvar Fordragon assumed the burden of governing Stormwind when King Varian Wrynn disappeared. He served as regent for the young Anduin, trying to hold together a kingdom already strained by internal rebellion and threats at its borders. Lady Katrana Prestor's influence complicated decisions at court. Bolvar's position made him central to the kingdom's uneasy survival rather than its distant wars.
Full History
Bolvar Fordragon became one of Stormwind's most important defenders in an age when rebuilding had not brought peace. The kingdom had survived the First War and returned under the Wrynn dynasty, but noble disputes, bandit movements, and hostile forces beyond its walls continued to drain its strength. When King Varian vanished, the crown passed into the hands of the young Anduin. Bolvar took on the regency, charged with protecting the prince and keeping the kingdom functioning without its adult ruler.
The crisis was as political as it was military. Stormwind's council had to decide which threats demanded limited soldiers and which warnings might draw the kingdom into distant fighting. Lady Katrana Prestor held substantial influence at court, and her advice often undermined efforts to respond to danger. The Defias Brotherhood remained a living example of how grievances within the kingdom could become armed revolt, while trouble in Redridge and the surrounding frontiers threatened settlements the capital could not easily defend.
Bolvar tried to balance military necessity with the responsibilities of regency. His duty was not merely to hold a throne in the king's absence, but to preserve a realm whose enemies could wear respectable faces as readily as they could march beneath hostile banners. The unresolved disappearance of Varian and the pressure exerted at court made Stormwind's apparent stability a fragile achievement.
