Quick Overview
Onyxia's hidden refuge belonged to the schemes of Deathwing's surviving children. Disputes over reconstruction, divided loyalties, and threats beyond the capital created opportunities for a dragon who wished to weaken human rule without announcing her presence. Full History
Onyxia's hidden refuge belonged to the schemes of Deathwing's surviving children. The black dragonflight had betrayed the other Aspects during the War of the Ancients, and its descendants continued to seek influence over the mortal world. Onyxia chose secrecy as a weapon, adopting the identity of Lady Katrana Prestor to work within the court of Stormwind.
Stormwind was vulnerable to intrigue after the wars that had driven its people into exile and forced them to rebuild their kingdom. Disputes over reconstruction, divided loyalties, and threats beyond the capital created opportunities for a dragon who wished to weaken human rule without announcing her presence. Onyxia cultivated influence in those struggles while keeping her true nature concealed.
Her lair was the other side of that deception: a refuge for the dragon behind the courtly mask. Like her brother Nefarian at Blackrock Mountain, she pursued the power of the black flight through mortal conflicts. The danger was not simply a mighty creature in hiding, but an ancient enemy whose plans could reach into a kingdom's decisions while its people believed they were dealing with one of their own nobles.
