Quick Overview
Teldrassil is the enormous World Tree raised after the Battle of Mount Hyjal to shelter the night elves' new homeland. Fandral Staghelm supported its growth, but the tree did not restore the immortality lost at Nordrassil. Darnassus, Dolanaar, and Shadowglen exist amid growing evidence that corruption troubles this new refuge.
Full History
Teldrassil is a symbol of hope raised after a victory that came at terrible cost. At Mount Hyjal, the night elves and their allies defeated Archimonde and the Burning Legion, but the conflict shattered the old assurances on which their people had lived. Their ancient immortality, tied to the blessing of Nordrassil, was lost. The kaldorei had saved Azeroth, yet they now faced a future of aging and death like the mortal peoples they had long watched from a distance.
In those unsettled years, Archdruid Fandral Staghelm advanced a daring answer: the night elves should grow another great tree and establish a new center for their civilization. Powerful druids brought forth Teldrassil in the Veiled Sea, and the people built Darnassus amid its vast crown. The new capital gave the kaldorei a place to gather, teach, and recover. But creating a World Tree was not the same as renewing the ancient covenant. Nozdormu's withheld blessing meant that Teldrassil did not return the long life the night elves had lost.
The tree's surface quickly acquired the shape of a homeland. Shadowglen sheltered new initiates; Dolanaar linked the villages of the wooded upper lands; and the roots and boughs offered protected places for people still learning how to live after the Third War. Yet troubling changes emerged within the sanctuary. Grells and other creatures behaved aggressively, and the Gnarlpine furbolgs, once peaceful neighbors, fell under a corrupting influence. Their assault on Starbreeze Village and the Ban'ethil Barrow Den made the danger personal. The problem was not simply a hostile force outside the forest: something was already wrong within the new refuge itself.
Teldrassil thus carries two stories at once. It is a remarkable act of reconstruction by a people whose oldest institutions survived the Sundering and another demonic invasion. It is also a disputed attempt to recover what had been sacrificed at Hyjal. The original game does not offer its new inhabitants a fully healed world. Darnassus stands, the druids continue their labor, and the young tree's disturbing symptoms warn that even the greatest magic cannot restore the past by decree.
