Full History
The furbolgs of northern Kalimdor belonged to the old woodland cultures long before the night elves planted Teldrassil. Their communities had lived in forests shaped by the natural powers that the kaldorei revered. When Fandral Staghelm and his followers raised a new World Tree off Darkshore, they created a home for the night elves but also brought new magical disturbances into the surrounding land.
The tree did not receive the blessing that had sanctified Nordrassil, and its growth was troubled by corruption. Fel moss began affecting the Gnarlpine tribe. Ursal the Mauler used its influence to drive his followers into a frenzy, turning once-peaceful neighbors against the night elves. Gnarlpine attacks reached Starbreeze Village, and the trouble threatened the sacred Ban'ethil Barrow Den. An old neighbor had become an enemy within the borders of the new realm.
Gnarlpine Hold became a refuge for the corrupted tribe. The night elves had sought renewal after the Third War and the loss of immortality, yet the very place chosen for that renewal brought new suffering to peoples who had shared Kalimdor's forests for ages. The Gnarlpine tragedy linked the World Tree's troubled creation to violence among communities that had once lived side by side.
