Princess Theradras was an earth elemental whose union with Zaetar, a son of Cenarius, transformed the history of central Kalimdor. Their offspring became the centaur, a people whose violence would drive the tauren from their old grazing lands for generations. The union crossed the boundaries between elemental power and the natural guardians of the world, and its consequences extended far beyond the caverns where Theradras dwelt.
Zaetar's children turned against their father and killed him. Theradras remained associated with the deep places of Maraudon, where his spirit and the taint of earth magic became entangled. Centaur tribes multiplied across Desolace and the Barrens, battling one another as well as the tauren. Their divisions did not make them harmless: repeated attacks left the tauren wandering and fighting to keep their families alive.
The rise of the centaur thus began as an ancient family tragedy and developed into a crisis that shaped an entire people. Cairne Bloodhoof's eventual alliance with Thrall offered the tauren the strength to stop retreating endlessly before those threats. Theradras's importance lies in what followed her forbidden union: centuries of migration, conflict and the struggle to build a safe homeland.
