Full History

The centaur of Kalimdor traced their descent to the unlikely union of Zaetar, a son of Cenarius, and Theradras, a princess of the earth. Their birth was followed by violence. The centaur turned upon Zaetar, and Theradras concealed his remains within the caverns later known as Maraudon.

Over time, the centaur spread through Desolace and the Barrens, forming rival clans whose raids made the grasslands dangerous for neighboring peoples. Their hostility helped drive the wandering tauren from land they had long considered home. Cairne Bloodhoof's tribe faced relentless attacks before meeting Thrall's orcs during the Third War. The alliance that followed allowed the tauren to push back their pursuers and establish a permanent refuge in Mulgore.

The centaur were not a single obedient nation. Their competing tribes fought each other as well as outsiders, and victory over one band did not end the danger from the others. Their history joined an ancient tragedy of the wilds to the more recent migrations and wars that reshaped central Kalimdor.
