Full History

The centaur's origin was bound to the strange union of Zaetar, a keeper descended from Cenarius, and Princess Theradras. Their offspring killed Zaetar and spread across the plains, becoming a relentless danger to the tauren. The sacred caverns of Maraudon preserved the memory of the murdered keeper. From that beginning grew a long struggle that reshaped the lives of entire tauren tribes.

Cenarius's descendants included nature-bound keepers and dryads, and Zaetar belonged to that older line. Theradras, an elemental princess, guarded his remains in the depths of Maraudon after their children's violence. The centaur clans expanded into the grasslands of Kalimdor, raiding and driving tauren settlements from secure ground. The tauren's migrations were not an incidental inconvenience; they became a defining condition of the people's recent history.

Cairne Bloodhoof's encounter with Thrall occurred against this background of persistent harassment. The alliance with the Horde finally helped the tauren establish a more stable home in Mulgore, but centaur threats did not simply disappear. The history of Maraudon and the plains thus joins ancient nature spirits to the practical survival of a people who struggled to remain free. It explains the importance of Thunder Bluff without treating settlement as the end of all conflict.
