Quick Overview
Centaur attacks kept the tauren moving across Kalimdor for generations. Their raiding and expansion endangered camps, hunting lands, and the tribes' ability to settle securely. Cairne Bloodhoof's alliance with Thrall during the Third War began to change that struggle by helping the tauren reclaim a defensible homeland.
Full History
The tauren had ancient roots in Kalimdor and a cultural life shaped by relationships with the Earth Mother, hunting, and the wisdom of their elders. These traditions survived despite the growing power of the centaur. The centaur had emerged from the lineage of Zaetar and Theradras and developed into groups capable of mounting sustained attacks against neighboring peoples. Over time, the tauren were repeatedly forced to retreat or migrate.
The danger was more than the loss of individual skirmishes. Constant pressure restricted where communities could live, gather resources, and maintain the continuity of their families. Different tauren tribes remained connected by tradition, yet their displacement made a stable and united homeland difficult to secure. The younger generation inherited an enduring struggle that had begun long before Thrall's arrival.
During the Third War, Thrall's orcs encountered Cairne and aided his people during the march through the Barrens. Their shared danger gave the orcs and tauren a basis for cooperation. With the help of the Horde, Cairne's tribe gained ground in Mulgore and the tauren began to consolidate around a more secure center, eventually creating the refuge of Thunder Bluff.
The old centaur pressure did not vanish from Kalimdor merely because one political alliance succeeded. It remained a central reason for the tauren's migration, military concerns, and willingness to join the New Horde. Their new settlements were the outcome of a hard-fought transition from wandering survival toward a more stable national home.
