Quick Overview

Lady Vashj was a naga leader who emerged as an ally of Illidan Stormrage in the aftermath of the Third War. She assisted his struggle against the forces pursuing him and became involved in the conflict surrounding the Eye of Sargeras. Her naga later helped Prince Kael'thas and the blood elves resist the Scourge. When Garithos condemned the elves for accepting that help, Vashj intervened in their escape.

Full History

Vashj's history extends back to the ancient night-elven civilization ruled by Queen Azshara. In the era of the Well of Eternity, the Highborne court pursued tremendous magical power even as it invited the Burning Legion into Azeroth. The catastrophe of the Sundering transformed the world and left Azshara's surviving followers beneath the seas as naga. Their continued existence meant that the political and magical legacies of the old empire never vanished entirely.

During the aftermath of the Third War, Vashj appeared beside Illidan Stormrage. Her forces supported the former prisoner when Maiev Shadowsong and the Wardens pursued him. She was involved in the struggle for the Eye of Sargeras and the attempt to use its power against the Frozen Throne. The episode connects ancient Highborne ambition with the dangers that still faced Azeroth thousands of years later.

Vashj also brought naga forces to Kael'thas Sunstrider's aid in the devastated northern kingdoms. The blood elves were fighting undead enemies while serving under Garithos, who neither trusted them nor welcomed help from the naga. Vashj's intervention saved soldiers whose commander had made their survival more difficult.

When Garithos ordered the blood elves imprisoned, Vashj helped free them. Her significance in this early story is not merely that she commanded an unusual army, but that she affected the future of another people devastated by the Scourge. She was part of a widening circle of alliances formed because the old kingdoms could no longer protect their survivors.
