Quick Overview
The imprisonment of Kael'thas and his blood elves brought their service under Garithos to an end. Lady Vashj intervened to free soldiers condemned for accepting her naga's aid against the Scourge. The episode reveals how little trust remained among the surviving defenders of Lordaeron. It also changed the political position of the dispossessed blood elves.
Full History
Lordaeron was a ruined kingdom, and its scattered surviving armies faced the Scourge with insufficient strength and uncertain leadership. Grand Marshal Garithos commanded one of those forces and expected strict obedience from Kael'thas Sunstrider. The blood-elven prince was responsible for survivors of Quel'Thalas and could not easily sacrifice them to orders that offered little hope of success.
The naga under Lady Vashj gave Kael's force vital support against undead enemies. Although the immediate threat was the Scourge, Garithos regarded the identity of these helpers as proof of disloyalty. His decision to imprison the blood elves created a crisis among nominal allies. Vashj helped secure their escape, ending the imprisonment but also severing the arrangement that had kept the elves under a human command.
The escape is an important original Frozen Throne episode because it exposes the political cost of the Third War. Elven and human soldiers who had once shared a broad cause could no longer assume mutual protection. In a country already devastated by undead armies, distrust deepened the divisions among the living. The chapter closes with that rupture rather than anticipating adventures beyond the Vanilla game world.
