Quick Overview
Kael'thas's blood elves fought alongside Lord Garithos's remaining Alliance troops against the Scourge. When Lady Vashj's naga rescued the elves from certain defeat, Garithos treated their cooperation as treason. His order to imprison and execute them drove Kael'thas away from the Alliance's surviving command.
Full History
The destruction of Quel'Thalas had left Kael'thas leading refugees who still hoped to resist the Scourge. In Lordaeron, his soldiers answered to Lord Garithos, commander of what remained of the local Alliance armies. Garithos mistrusted the elves and assigned them difficult operations without the support their circumstances required. Survival grew harder with every mission, and the prince found himself forced to choose between obedience and the lives of his people.
Lady Vashj appeared with naga warriors when the blood elves faced an undead assault they could not withstand alone. Kael'thas accepted her help. Garithos responded not with gratitude but with the arrest of the prince and his followers. In the dungeons of Dalaran, the blood elves awaited execution for accepting aid from an enemy Garithos despised.
Vashj returned to free the prisoners. Together they broke through the dungeon's guards and escaped the shattered city. The betrayal ended Kael'thas's service under Garithos and placed his desperate company on the road to Outland, where Illidan promised another course for their survival.
