Full History

The Bronzebeards came to rule Ironforge after a civil war that broke the older unity of the dwarves. While High King Anvilmar lived, three great clans had shared the mountain kingdom. His death drew them into a struggle for succession, and Madoran Bronzebeard led the force that eventually drove the Wildhammers and Dark Irons into exile.

Their victory made Ironforge the heart of a Bronzebeard kingdom. It did not spare them further war. Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan later attempted to seize the capital, while his wife Modgud attacked the Wildhammers at Grim Batol. Both assaults failed, but Thaurissan's summoning of Ragnaros devastated the southern lands and left the Dark Irons under an elemental master.

In later generations the Bronzebeards joined the Alliance against the orcish Horde. Their soldiers, craftsmen, and engineers helped sustain that war, while the kingdom's explorers increasingly searched ancient ruins for clues to dwarf origins. The clan's history thus led from the struggle to inherit one mountain to a wider role in the defense and discovery of Azeroth.
