Kharanos grew along the roads of Dun Morogh beneath the protection of Ironforge, within a homeland shaped by a much older struggle for the mountains. The Bronzebeard dwarves had held their capital through the War of the Three Hammers, while the Wildhammer and Dark Iron clans departed after their defeat. The smaller communities around Ironforge inherited both the security of the surviving kingdom and the dangers of its frontier.
After the trogg disaster drove gnomes from Gnomeregan, the bonds between dwarves and gnomes gained renewed urgency. Kharanos became one of the places where their practical skills met: forges, workshops, and brewing traditions supported the surrounding settlements. Yet the mountains were not uncontested. Frostmane trolls pressed against dwarven outposts, while wild creatures threatened the roads and workers who kept the region supplied.
The town's part in history was less dramatic than the defense of Ironforge, but no less connected to it. The capital depended on a ring of settlements capable of raising provisions, maintaining routes, and responding to threats before they reached its gates. Kharanos stood within that network, carrying the long consequences of both dwarven clan divisions and the newer alliance with the displaced gnomes.
