Full History
The Bronzebeard clan held Ironforge after the death of High King Modimus Anvilmar brought the dwarven civil war into the open. Three powerful factions had competed within the mountain kingdom, and no successor could contain their rival claims. Under Madoran Bronzebeard, the clan defeated its rivals and kept the great halls, while the Wildhammers and Dark Irons established separate homelands.
The fighting continued beyond the first division. Dark Iron attacks drove the Wildhammers from Grim Batol and culminated in Thaurissan's summoning of Ragnaros at Blackrock Mountain. The Bronzebeards survived that catastrophe, but the division of their people remained a permanent fact of dwarven politics. Ironforge became the heart of a smaller kingdom instead of the undisputed capital of all dwarves.
When the orcish Horde entered Khaz Modan in the Second War, the clan helped defend the mountain realm and stood beside the Alliance. Under King Magni, the Bronzebeards also supported explorers searching for the ancient origins of dwarven civilization. Their history joined military endurance with a growing curiosity about who the dwarves had been before the wars of their three clans.
